Approval to Operate

Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST) is certified to operate and grant Master’s degree in the Commonwealth of Virginia by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) in accordance with the provisions of Title 23, Chapter 21.1 of the Code of Virginia.

Student and Exchange Visitor Program (F-1 SEVIS)

Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST) is a SEVP-certified school by The U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE). VUST provides an opportunity to prospective international students to study in the United States. VUST also offers the OPT and CPT opportunities for qualified/eligible students.

SEVP-certified school is a college, university, seminary, conservatory, high school, private elementary school, private middle school, other academic or vocational institution, or language training program in the United States that has applied for and received certification to enroll F /and or M nonimmigrant students. 

VUST is certified by SAA

VUST has been approved to offer GI Bill® educational benefits by the Virginia State Approving Agency.

This certifying procedure allows VUST to make certifications to the VA for enrollment and changes in enrollment of students seeking benefits under the VA educational assistance programs listed as follows:

CH-30 -Montgomery GI Bill, Active Duty (MGIB/AD)
CH-32 – Post Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

CH-1606 – Montgomery GI Bill/Selected Reservist (MGIB/SR)

VUST Yellow Ribbon Program

Virginia University of Science and Technology is a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program aids in funding tuition and fees for students who are 100% covered by the Post 9/11 GI Bill® so long as a student has remaining entitlement available. Because Yellow Ribbon is a form of Virginia University of Science and Technology institutional aid, it cannot be combined with any other Virginia University of Science and Technology tuition assistance or discounts. Yellow Ribbon is not an extension of entitlement.

To apply for the Montgomery GI Bill®, complete the following steps:

1. Create a VA account through ID.me or Login.gov.

2. Log into your account and complete the appropriate application:

3. VA Form 22-1990 – If you are applying for VA benefits for the first time.

4. VA Form 22-1995 – If you have used your benefits at another institution and would like to transfer to Washington University of Science and Technology as your primary institution, or if it has been over a year since your last certification.

5. Once the application has been submitted, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility. The Certificate of Eligibility is sent via postal mail services and could take up to 8 weeks for receipt.

National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)

Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST) is a NC-SARA-certified Institute.

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) has approved Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST) as an NC-SARA–certified institution. As a result, VUST is now a member of the SARA community and is officially listed on the NC-SARA website as a SARA-participating institution.
